When Does My Car A/C Need Service?

If you're unsure when to get your vehicle's air conditioning checked out or serviced, be on the lookout for these three signs:

Hot Air From Your A/C

If the air blowing out of your A/C unit is hot, this can be a major issue. When water gets into your air conditioner, it combines with refrigerant, creating a highly corrosive acid that can cause many aspects of your A/C system to deteriorate. This acid can also ruin rubber seals that are designed to prevent the refrigerant from leaking - if there is a leak, it can cut back on your system's cooling power.

An Odd Smell

Any weird odor coming from your A/C means it likely needs to be looked at. If the air from the vents is accompanied by a funky smell, this could be a result of mold - meaning water is present (see the hot air sign above).

The cause of the smell could be a damp or dirty air filter, which means it's blocking a drain in your evaporator case.

Weak Airflow

If your A/C just doesn't pump out enough air, there could be excess moisture in the evaporator core, causing a buildup of mold and other debris to cause a blockage. When the system loses air pressure, this could also be a signal that a restriction in the evaporator core is present, or the blower motor isn't working properly.
